I had to work a couple days this week to cover vacations. We stayed the nights before at my Mom's. My Dad took the kids to school today. Apparently I left him totally unprepared and uninformed. Friday is a very important day....
On the way to school Callie started crying because she didn't have anything for show-and-tell. Luckily my Dad had a screwdriver in his car. Callie told her class all about the screwdriver that Grampy uses to fix her toys. Problem solved! But wait, she wasn't done yet. Then she realized it was Coffee and Scram day! The Upper Elementry kids have a little business where they make bakery and sell it with hot chocolate and coffee every Friday morning. They donate the profits to charity. Every Friday we wake up 30 minutes early to go to Coffee and Scram. It would be great if I could motivate the kids like that on the other 4 school days!
So she stops crying about show-and-tell and starts crying about Coffee and Scram. Callie got her Coffee and Scram.
Chasing Callie!

Auntie Em, Auntie Em!
We've had tornado watches or warnings for the last three days now. Its been sunny, rainy, stormy, windy and calm. Typical WI weather. As I am writing this it is pitch black outside and the thunder is rolling.
Last summer Trent was very concerned about the possibility of a tornado. Anytime he would hear it mentioned it sent him into disaster mode. Two days ago he was playing at the park, sunny skies, not a care in the world, the wind picked up slightly and then the sirens went off, he comes running into the house, "there's going to be a tornado!" Grabs his piggy bank and heads for the basement.
When I was little I remember going to the basement one time. I brought my hamster. Even though we had lots of warnings, I only felt the need to go down once, because my Dad would always reassure us. "I built this house with my own hands. Its not going anywhere." I believed him.

Brake Awake
When I was little I contantly fell asleep in the car. To this day I enjoy a good car nap (of course not when I'm driving!)
Trent usually falls asleep on the way home from school. For some reason I was reminded of how my Dad used to wake us up. He would pull into the driveway and pump the brakes about 5 times, lurching the car forward!
I was tempted to try it out on Trent but I'll leave that special fun for Grampy.
